Abreactions
An abreaction is an unusual reaction from a subject which can be brought on when strong emotions surface during a hypnosis session. Examples of an abreaction are:
-
Crying
-
Screaming
-
Uncontrollable laughter
The best way to deal with an abreaction is to emerge the subject from hypnosis. An excellent way to do this is to first, end the abreaction by saying "The scene fades, and you tend to your breathing." Say this calmly and confidently, over and over. The abreaction will subside. Then emerge the person from hypnosis.
Shock Induction Safety
Shock inductions involve sudden movements or noises, and because of this it is important to ensure that the subject has no pre-existing conditions that could be made worse by your use of the induction. ALWAYS ask your subject if she has any neck or arm problems before doing the shock induction. If she says "Yes.", DO NOT do a shock induction. Obviously this should never be done on anyone who has a heart condition.
The hand drop induction is very effective for street hypnosis, but it should always be done with the subject seated. The reason for this is that there is a natural tendency for the human body to lurch forward when this induction is triggered. Be ready to catch the subject if this happens.
The Hypnotic Hangover
Sometimes a subject will emerge from hypnosis and complain of a headache, dizzyness or a sense of "still being hypnotized". This is known as a hypnotic hangover. The hypnotic hangover is very easy to fix. Simply hypnotize her again and then emerge her very slowly from hypnosis. During the emergence, give lots of suggestions for well being and feeling fine.
Coma State
Coma state, also known as Esdaille state is a very deep state of hypnosis. A subject in coma state feels wonderful and may not emerge when you request it. It is extremely unlikely that one of your subjects will experience coma state, but if this happens, follow these steps:
-
Ask the subject why she didn't emerge. If she answers you, she is not in coma state.
-
If she does not answer you, GENTLY shake her. She could be asleep.
-
If she doesn't respond, you must resort to the "coma threat". Say to her, "I know you're feeling really good right now, but you need to emerge now. If you do not emerge by the time I count from one to five, I will place a hypnotic seal on you so that you can never experience this state again." Be firm with this threat. Begin your count, and she will emerge because she will not risk never being able to experience the state again.
